Sports book reviews by John Marsinelli

Hello all, I would like to introduce to you all a very good friend of mine.

John Marsinelli is a coworker, friend and a sports-a-holic such as myself. He is into reading and reviewing sports books. I've known John for a little while now and he continually tells me about the books he has read. So when I decided to reopen this, I figured I would ask him to join so that he can put his reviews out to the masses.

A little known fact about John is that he is a great kid, he constantly is doing things for charity, and is also training to run in the Christie Clinic marathon (which was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus).
John has aspirations to be a police officer and LOVES White Claws!

Lets all give John a warm welcome and I hope you all enjoy his reviews.

Thank you

What now?

As I mentioned in my last post, there is no NBA, MLB, NFL, or NHL. So what is there to do for a sports lover such as myself?
Well, I am constantly seeing that both the NBA and NHL are trying to find common areas where all teams can play, which might make the games play into the late dog days of summer forcing them to make the start of next season later into the year. I for one would welcome the NHL to be playing into the late into the summer, because the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs have to be one of the most exciting playoffs out there. It seems that its the only sport in which a 7th seed team can get hot at the right time and take it all the way to a championship. For me that is the most exciting thing that the NHL provides.

The NFL is stating that they aren't going to be changing anything that they do (schedule wise). I have to say that for the first time in a  long time, I actually paid attention the NFL draft this year. It has to be one of the most entertaining drafts I have seen in a long time. Ones I've watched in the past I have fallen asleep on the couch within an hour, that's mainly due to the drawn out process of the picks, introducing and pop and circumstance that comes along with it.
This years draft moved quicker, gave us a glimpse into these soon to be pro bowl athletes world and even the commissioner seemed human and to enjoy it. The commentary was good and it had very little hiccups (well at least not to my knowledge.)

MLB is, well MLB. They haven't done much, the cheating scandal hasn't been talked about for a while, The Red Sox traded Mookie and Price, but what else is there?... Go on, I'll wait.
Exactly, nothing! I have lost so much interest in MLB that I don't have much to talk about. The players salaries are so high, their replay system isn't working too well, and their product just seems long winded and over saturated.

The NBA is trying to get back to business as usual, but are having a hard time getting teams on board and finding specific areas where they can play. They constantly toss back and forth the idea of playing in empty stadiums, but most players aren't on board with that, and honestly... who can blame them? They deserve to play in front of their fans, just as much as the other leagues. I'm not a NBA expert (nor am I an expert at any sports), but they will figure it out and continue on.

As much as I want sports to come back so I can spend my Saturday and Sunday nights with a ice cold beer and being stressed out watching my beloved Bruins, I'd much rather have a vaccine made and for this to stop taking our loved ones away.
Sports is a a healer, sports unites people. Sports allows strangers to have something in common, makes dinner with extended families more enjoyable. But now is the time to follow the restrictions, stay inside when your supposed too. Thank the Dr's, EMT's, Police and Fire associates.Thank a nursing home associate and all health care workers. Thank a dispatcher, a grocery worker, a retail worker. Thank the Dunkin Donuts worker that's there at 5am to make sure you have you medium regular coffee.

Thank you to all.

What’s With All of These Arrests…?

Wipe that goofy smile off of your face
Vikings superstar, Adrian Peterson, was released from jail on Saturday, July 7 on a $1,000 bond.  He was charged with a misdemeanor for resisting arrest at a nightclub in downtown Houston.  He allegedly engaged 3 off-duty police officers when they asked him to leave the club because it was closing.  Allegedly, Peterson “assumed an aggressive stance” and shoved officers at the nightclub.  The Texas native has always been perceived as humble, reserved, friendly and motivated.  This allegation certainly does not hold true to his personality.  The 27 year old went ahead and hired Rusty Hardin (the attorney who defended major league pitcher, Roger Clemens) to defend him in court.  The charge has been called a ‘total fabrication’ by the Peterson campaign.  He has pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment and continues to tell the media that he is in fact the victim.  Regardless, he is due in court on August 6th.

San Francisco native, Jason Kidd was also arrested this weekend for driving while intoxicated.  Last week many of the New York sports headlines read: “Jason Kidd Excited to Mentor Jeremy Lin…” Well, as of right now it’s looking like Jason Kidd could land himself in jail for a year and Jeremy Lin is probably heading to the Houston Rockets.  Police say Kidd crashed his Cadillac Escalade into a telephone pole in the Hamptons early Sunday morning.  Kidd was arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge and was released without bail.  Kidd pleaded not guilty and is awaiting further court proceedings.  The 10-time All-Star Kidd was ecstatic at the chance to mentor Jeremy Lin in New York with his 18 years of NBA experience.  He has had run-ins with the law before (in 2001 he was arrested for domestic violence) but at this point you’d expect more from a 39 year-old guy trying to be a ‘mentor’ right?

On Saturday night, 28-year-old Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm.  His bond was set at $7,500 and he was released from jail early Sunday morning.  According to a victim’s statement, the victim drove his Mercedes in front of Dumervil’s Land Rover in stopped traffic.  Both parties became aggravated, made threats towards each other and honked their horns at each other.  Allegedly, Dumervil exited his vehicle and approached the Mercedes with his shirt lifted, revealing a firearm. Dumervil could face up to five years in prison if found guilty.  The first-team All-Pro signed a six-year, $61.5M contract extension in 2009, in which he recorded 17 sacks.  He missed the 2010 season, but came back strong last season with 9.5 sacks and 31 tackles.

Ok… so what’s the deal?  All of these crazy arrests of high-profile players all within about a week of each other have been a little tragic for the sports world.  Peterson and Kidd both act as role models by trying to be ambassadors for their respective games.  Dumervil has had other assault charges filed against him in the past, so that arrest is not so much of a shocker as the other two are.  Now, I guess what this really comes down to is the athlete’s “holier-than-thou” perspective towards everyone else.  They’re high-paid entertainers who are revered by millions of people who honestly can believe that they’re better people and deserve some sort of special treatment. I am going to guess that Peterson will be let off, but Kidd and Dumervil will both have to face the consequences of their actions facing jail time, fines and/or community service.

Either way, sports players should be smarter about what they do in public. C’mon guys, you’re role models for America.  Whether you like it or not, you are all held to a higher standard of conduct because you are all icons.  I don’t want to watch some Keeping Up with the Kardashians/Jersey Shore crap… I want to watch Sports Center.  Keep the cuffs off, focus on the game.  Watch what you do off the field/court so you can do your job.  Think and act with some accountability and responsibility. Your star-status can't get you out of everything.

AFC West Predictions

Welcome to the third installment of "Sports Blaggah's" NFL predictions. Today we are going to be looking into the AFC West

Denver Broncos (11-5) Now I know what you're thinking, 11-5 this year?? but they have Peyton Manning now. True but let's remember that this is just my predictions and Peyton hasn't played a actual game in a year. Let's take a look at the signings and some important games.

Mike Adams (S) signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Lance Ball (RB) re-signed/exclusive rights free agent.
Peyton Manning (QB) signed (five-year contract (through 2016)).
Wesley Woodyard (LB) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Manny Ramirez (G) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
Andre Caldwell (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Tracy Porter (CB) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Brandon Stokley (WR) signed (one-year contract (through 2012))
Omar Bolden (CB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)
Malik Jackson (DE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Derek Wolfe (DT) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Danny Trevathan (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Philip Blake (C) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Matt Prater (K) re-signed (four-year contract (through 2015)).
John Elway has gone out of his way to get Peyton so I feel that might have hurt them from getting some better FA's but hell he is John Elway so let him do his thing. Here are some of the important games for the Broncos Week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17
Week 1 is against the Steelers (Home)
Week 2 is against the Falcons (Away)
Week 3 is against the Texans (Home)
Week 4 is against the Raiders (Home)
Week 5 is against the Patriots (Away)
Week 6 is against the Chargers (Away)
Week 8 is against the Saints (Home)
Week 11 is against the Chargers (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 12 is against the Chiefs (Away)
Week 14 is against the Raiders (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 15 is against the Ravens (Away)
Week 17 is against the Chiefs (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
This year is going to be a true test for the Broncos, even with Peyton Manning joining the team. I feel that the Broncos have improved but at the end of the day Tebow isn't here to throw the "hail mary".

San Diego Chargers (12-4) The Chargers armed with Philip Rivers and a decent defense, the Chargers are setup to make a decent run this year. Lets take a look at their signings and important games.
Jared Gaither (T) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Jarret Johnson (LB) signed/unrestricted free agent (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Kory Sperry (TE) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Le'Ron McClain (RB) signed/unrestricted free agent (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Eddie Royal (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (three-year contract).
Roscoe Parrish (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012))
Luis Castillo (DE) signed (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Micheal Spurlock (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Melvin Ingram (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (fifth year option)).
Kendall Reyes (DE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
David Molk (C) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Ladarius Green (TE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Johnnie Troutman (G) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Edwin Baker (RB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Garrett Brown (DT) signed (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Arthur Hobbs (CB) signed (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Brandon Taylor (S) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Ronnie Brown (RB) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
LaDainian Tomlinson (RB) retired.
The Chargers seem to have all of their needs filled, and a legend called it quits. I am glad that LaDainian Tomlinson went out the same way he came in, classy.
Let's now take a look at the important games, week 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17
Week 1 is against the Raiders (Away)
Week 3 is against the Falcons (Home)
Week 4 is against the Chiefs (Away)
Week 5 is against the Saints (Away)
Week 6 is against the Broncos (Home)
Week 9 is against the Chiefs (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 11 is against the Broncos (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 12 is against the Ravens (Home)
Week 13 is against the Bengals (Home)
Week 14 is against the Steelers (Away)
Week 16 is against the Jets (Away)
Week 17 is against the Raiders (Home) This is the second meeting between these two teams
The Chargers are what I like to call "the comeback kings" every year they seem to be so far out but yet always find their way back into the playoff race. This year shouldn't be any different, I see them moving past the Broncos to win the division.

Oakland Raiders (8-8) Let me start off by saying that the Raiders had a pretty decent 2011 (for the Raiders that is) with a veteran and ex NE Patriot Richard Seymour, and veteran Carson Palmer leading the way I think the Raiders will stay .500 for most (if not all) this season. Let's take a look at their signings and their important games
Ron Bartell (CB) signed (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Mike Brisiel (G) signed/unrestricted free agent (five-year contract (through 2016)).
Khalif Barnes (T) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
Pat Lee (CB) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Dave Tollefson (DE) signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Matt Leinart (QB) signed.
Tyvon Branch (S) re-signed/franchise (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Desmond Bryant (DT) re-signed/restricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Jack Crawford (DE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Christo Bilukidi (DT) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Nate Stupar (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Miles Burris (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Tyvon Branch (S) re-signed (four-year extension (through 2015)).
Raiders coasted through FA and the Draft so it's tough to really pinpoint their grade on it.
Here are the Raiders important games,week 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17.
Week 1 is against the Chargers (Home)
Week 3 is against the Steelers (Home)
Week 4 is against the Broncos (Away)
Week 6 is against the Falcons (Away)
Week 8 is against the Chiefs (Away)
Week 10 is against the Ravens (Away)
Week 11 is against the Saints (Home)
Week 12 is against the Bengals (Away) This is going to be a very important game for Carson Palmer, as he will be able to get his sweet revenge against his old team.
Week 14 is against the Broncos (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 15 is against the Chiefs (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 17 is against the Chargers (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams
I have always felt that going to Oakland was a place where the NFL player dies (career wise) but they have seem to actual make themselves into a little force out there in Oakland. Look for the Raiders to make a legit playoff run in the coming years but not this year, as they are still in the "rebuilding" phase.

Kansas City Chiefs (10-6) With a defensive minded coach, Romeo Crennel is sure to whip the Chiefs into form. He defiantly has all the right pieces to succeed (unlike in Cleveland). Let's take a look at the signings and important games shall we?
Stanford Routt (CB) signed (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Amon Gordon (DT) re-signed (two-year extension (through 2013)).
Peyton Hillis (RB) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Kevin Boss (TE) signed/unrestricted free agent (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Eric Winston (T) signed (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Brady Quinn (QB) signed/unrestricted free agent.
Jovan Belcher (LB) re-signed/restricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Travis Daniels (CB) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
Jerome Long (DE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Junior Hemingway (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Cyrus Gray (RB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Devon Wylie (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Jeff Allen (G) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
De'Quan Menzie (CB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Dominique Ellis (S) signed.
Rich Ranglin (G) signed.
Martin Rucker (TE) signed/unrestricted free agent.
Leon Williams (LB) signed/unrestricted free agent.
Donald Stephenson (T) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015))
I feel the Chiefs did an excellent job filling their holes, now it's time for the important games
week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17
Week 1 is against the Falcons (Home)
Week 2 is against the Bills (Away)
Week 3 is against the Saints (Away)
Week 4 is against the Chargers (Home)
Week 5 is against the Ravens (Home)
Week 8 is against the Raiders (Home)
Week 9 is against the Chargers (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 10 is against the Steelers (Away)
Week 11 is against the Bengals (Home)
Week 12 is against the Broncos (Home)
Week 15 is against the Raiders (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 17 is against the Broncos (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams.
The Chiefs have a decent shot at the division this year but between the Broncos, and the Chargers both improving they will most likely fall short.

AFC North Predictions

Welcome back for my second installment of "Sports Blaggah's" NFL predictions 2012
In this segment I am going to exploring the AFC North

Cincinnati Bengals (11-5) The Bengals had a great 2011 season, all with a rookie QB Andy Dalton. With Marvin Lewis at the helm the Bengals have gotten better and better. Lets take a look at the newest members of the Bengals and some important games.

Reggie Nelson (S) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Jason Allen (CB) signed/unrestricted free agent.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis (RB) signed/unrestricted
Adam Jones (CB) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
Manny Lawson (LB) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
The Bengals don't seem to have made a big splash in FA (free agency) but they have a solid young core that will make them contenders for a while. Now lets take a gander at the important games. Week 1, 7, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17
Week 1 is against the Ravens (Away)
Week 7 is against the Steelers (Home)
Week 9 is against the Broncos (Home)
Week 10 is against the (Home)
Week 15 is against the Eagles (Away)
Week 16 is against the Steelers (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams
Week 17 is against the Ravens (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
In all honesty I think the Bengals have a pretty good shot this year, however being in a division with the Ravens and Steelers will prove to be difficult

Baltimore Ravens (12-4) The Baltimore Ravens are always a team that is mentioned in the same sentence as the Superbowl. With veteran leaders like Ray Lewis (mister Raven) and loud mouth Terrell Suggs the Ravens are always a team with attitude and poise. Let's take a look at some of the FA signings and important games.
Curtis Painter (QB) signed (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Asa Jackson (CB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Jacoby Jones (WR) signed (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Bernard Pollard (S) re-signed (three-year extension (through 2015)).
Christian Thompson (S) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Kelechi Osemele (G) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Gino Gradkowski (G) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
DeAngelo Tyson (DE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Courtney Upshaw (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Tommy Streeter (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Bernard Pierce (RB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
The Ravens did a great job getting all their draft picks signed, but didn't really make a name for themselves in FA. That's ok they still have Ray Rice and *cough cough* Joe Flacco.
Here are the important games this year,Week 1, 2, 3, 7, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17
Week 1 is against the Bengals (Home)
Week 2 is against the Eagles (Away)
Week 3 is against the Patriots (Home) (AFC Championship reunion)
Week 7 is against the Texans (Away)
Week 11 is against the Steelers (Away)
Week 13 is against the Steelers (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams and I'm sure the tempers will be flaring.
Week 15 is against the Broncos (Home)
Week 16 is against the Giants (Home)
Week 17 is against the Bengals (Away) this is the second meeting between these two teams.
All in all I think its going to be a tough division this year for the Ravens, however I feel that the Ravens will come in second place and loose a tough one against the Steelers.

Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) The Pittsburgh Steelers are the cream of the crop in this division (remember my opinion) with a very solid coach in Mike Tomlin. The Steelers defense has to be one of the top out there. I am not a James Harrison fab what so ever but I have to give him a tad bit of credit for being a force. Let's take a look at the Steelers signings and important games. Doug Legursky (G) re-signed/restricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Trai Essex (G) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Jerricho Cotchery (WR) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
David Johnson (TE) re-signed/restricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Keenan Lewis (CB) re-signed/restricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Ryan Mundy (S) re-signed/restricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Steve McLendon (NT) re-signed/exclusive rights free agent.
Jeremy Kapinos (P) re-signed/exclusive rights free agent.
Isaac Redman (RB) re-signed/exclusive rights free agent.
Chris Rainey (RB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Alameda Ta'amu (NT) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Toney Clemons (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Terrence Frederick (CB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
David Paulson (TE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Mike Adams (T) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015))
One very important contract that I didn't list is the original running QB Mr Kordell Stewart. He signed a one day contract and retired. Here are the important games, week 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 16
Week 1 is against the Broncos (Away)
Week 2 is against the Jets (Home)
Week 5 is against the Eagles (Home)
Week 7 is against the Bengals (Away)
Week 9 is against the Giants (Away)
Week 11 is against the Ravens (Home)
Week 13 is against the Ravens (Away) like I said earlier in my post, this is sure to be a sloberknocker
Week 16 is against the Bengals (Home) this is the second meeting between these two teams
My true thought is that the Steelers will win the division, even with the Bengals improving and the Ravens being a pest.

Cleveland Browns (8-8) Boy oh boy, what can I say about the Browns that hasn't already been said. Do I think they will be a contender? I have to be honest and say no, so let's take a look at the signings and important games for the Browns shall we?
Frostee Rucker (DE) signed/unrestricted free agent (five-year contract (through 2016)).
Oniel Cousins (T) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
Juqua Parker (DE) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Dimitri Patterson (CB) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Alex Smith (TE) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract).
Phil Dawson (K) re-signed/franchise (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Jordan Norwood (WR) re-signed/exclusive rights free agent.
James-Michael Johnson (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Brad Smelley (RB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Travis Benjamin (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Ryan Miller (G) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Trevin Wade (CB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
John Hughes (DT) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).

So there you have it! there are all of your important signings, nothing crazy but not bad.
Here are the important games .... AH! the heck with it! all the games are important to the Browns this year. 8-8 is my opinion for them this year. (Good Luck).

What are your thoughts?

AFC East Predictions

In the following days I'm going to give you my breakdown of each division. Today I will start with the AFC East,

New England Patriots- (12-4) In this off season we watched the Patriots sure up their team with some serious key additions, lets take another look at the signings

Brandon Lloyd (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Donte' Stallworth (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Dan Koppen (C) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Chandler Jones (DE) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (fifth-year option)).
Jabar Gaffney (WR) signed.
Joseph Addai (RB) signed.
Nate Ebner (S) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).

Some key games on the schedule this year ( I feel ) are Week 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 15.
Week 3 is against the Ravens (Away)
Week 4 is against Buffalo (Away)
Week 5 is against Old rival Peyton Manning but on his new team the Broncos (Home)
Week 7 is the first of two games against the hated Jets (Home)
Week 10 is the second game against Buffalo
Week 12 is a Thanksgiving night game against ( and our second game) The Jets (Away)
Week 14 is against the Houston Texans (Home)
Week 15 is against the 49'ers (Home)
I predict the the Patriots will go 12-4 this year and win the division and at the end we will be celebrating a super bowl victory, especially after last year where they had another bitter loss to the New York Giants.

Buffalo Bills- (11-5) We all witnessed the Bills make the biggest splash in free agency this year by signing Mario Williams, they also went out and resigned Bryan Scott (LB) and made a push for
Mark Anderson (DE) signed/unrestricted free agent (four-year contract (through 2015)).
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Buffalo Bills with have one of the best if not the best defense this year, however their offense might struggle. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a good QB but I don't think he will have much to throw to this year, and after that huge extension he signed last year I feel he has a lot to prove (in my eyes that is )

Here are my key games for the Bills, week 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 10, 17
Week 1 is against the Jets (Away)
Week 2 is against the Chiefs (Home)
Week 4 is against the Patriots (Home)
Week 5 is against the 49'ers (Away)
Week 9 is against the Texans (Away)
Week 10 is the second game against the Patriots (Away)
Week 17 is the second game against the Jets (Home)
I think the Bills will go 11-5 and the will be a very close second to the Patriots, one of the losses the Bills will have will be against the Patriots so that will prevent them from winning the division.

New York Jets- (10-6) The New York Jets in my opinion are a train wreck waiting to happen. With Mr Mouth Rex Ryan at the helm there is sure to be some sort of trash talking going on. I feel Rex is a great Defensive minded coach and I know that they will be ready to play this year, but with Mark Sanchez being their QB I'm not sure they will get to the next level. Let's take a look at their new additions.

Nick Folk (K) re-signed/unrestricted free agent.
Drew Stanton (QB) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Chaz Schilens (WR) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
LaRon Landry (S) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Tim Tebow (QB) traded (for 4th- and 6th-round picks in 2012).
Demario Davis (LB) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Jordan White (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).

Here are the key games for the Jets, week 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17
Week 1 is against the Bills (Home)
Week 2 is against the Steelers (Away)
Week 4 is against the 49'ers (Home)
Week 5 is against the Texans (Home)
Week 7 is against the Patriots (Away)
Week 12 is a Thanksgiving night match up that's sure to pull you out of your turkey coma
Week 17 is the second time they play the Bills
I think  the Jets have a lot of talent but will have some really tough losses this year, With Buffalo and New England getting better they might not have as easy time with them this year. I think the Jets will go 10-6 and might squeak into the playoff's

Miami Dolphins (10-6) The Dolphins were really aggressive this off season filling in a lot of needs and wants. With a new head coach and a new attitude they will give their foes a hard time. Lets look at some of their acquisitions shall we?

Richard Marshall (CB) signed/unrestricted free agent (three-year contract (through 2014)).
Paul Soliai (DT) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (two-year contract (through 2013)).
Artis Hicks (G) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
David Garrard (QB) signed (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Ryan Baker (DE) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Jamaal Westerman (LB) signed/unrestricted free agent.
Steve Slaton (RB) re-signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Gary Guyton (LB) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract (through 2012)).
Cameron Wake (DE) re-signed (four-year extension (through 2016)).
B.J. Cunningham (WR) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Kheeston Randall (DT) signed/draft choice (four-year contract (through 2015)).
Chad Ochocinco (WR) signed.

Here are the key games for the Dolphins, week 1, 3, 5, 8, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17
Week 1 is against the Texans (Away)
Week 3 is against the Jets (Home)
Week 5 is against the Bengals (Away)
Week 8 is against the Jets (Home) this is the second meeting between them
Week 11 is against the Bills (Away)
Week 13 is against the Patriots (Home)
Week 14 is against the 49'ers (Away)
Week 16 is against the Bills (Home) this is the second meeting between them
Week 17 is against the Patriots (Away) this is the second meeting between them

They have a solid list of players, and with the resigning of Cameron Wake the defense is going to be good.
Will it be enough to surpass the juggernaut that is the Patriots? I'm thinking not, plus with them being in the so called rebuilding phase, I see the Dolphins being at best 10-6
What are your predictions for the AFC East?

Before any Pats fans out there burn me for this lets not forget that you are no judged by how many super bowls you have won but how you changed the game.
LaDainian Tomlinson has solidified him self into history and should be commended for his pure determination. By the way I don't count him in a Jet's jersey as determination.. Just saying.
What are your thoughts? Was he a great RB? Where would you rank him?

Belichick Claims Ballard, Coughlin Pissed

The New England Patriots’ tight end package just got a whole lot scarier.  Yesterday, the Pats acquired New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard.  Ballard tore his ACL in Super Bowl XLVI against the Patriots and is expected to miss part of the 2012 regular season.  The Patriots will inherit his one-year, $540,000 contract and are likely to place him on the Physically Unable to Perform list before the start of the regular season.
This is a great move for the Patriots for a few reasons.  First of all, the 6’6 275 Ballard had a breakout season for the Giants last year, playing in 14 games and recording 38 receptions for 600+ yards receiving and 4 touchdowns.  At 25, there is a great amount of potential for Ballard to be a premier tight end in the NFL.  Once healthy, Ballard will undoubtedly make the Patriots receiving core even more unpredictable and effective.
Another reason why this is a fantastic move for the Patriots is that it frustrates New York Giants head coach, Tom Coughlin. You've gotta love how ballsy Belichick is with this move.  I hate the Giants organization just as much as any Patriots fan, so seeing Coughlin all upset and bothered gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling inside.  When asked about Ballard, he responded, “Discouraged is a minor description.  Very disappointing.  I am not going to have a lot to say about that one, just the fact we are disappointed.  We are very disappointed.”
I wonder if he's disappointed?

Ochocinco is swimming with the Dolphins

Not long after being released from The New England Patriots, Chad was picked up by the Miami Dolphins. But what really makes me wonder is, did they just sign him to a 1 year deal the same year that they will be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks? Is this move of a publicity stunt to get more attention in Miami? I'm begging to think so, and here's why. Chad hasn't been the prolific receiver he once was for about 3 season (2 with the Bengals, and 1 with the Patriots) so what makes Miami think that this is a good fit. Miami hasn't really done anything to bump up their team to make them a legitimate contender in the AFC East. He played 1 year with a HOF quaterback named Tom Brady, has made other so/so receivers look good (anyone rememebr Reche Cadwell??!!see pic to the right if not) If he can't have a productive season with Tom Brady then your not going to get much Miami, just saying.

New England, has really went out and filled some key pieces to make them Super Bowl  favorites again, but lets not forget about the hated New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills. New York hasn't really done much either but yet they will continue to be a thorn in New England's side as long as Feety McRyan is there.
Buffalo was really aggressive this off season with the signing of Mario Williams, and with the young talent, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and their coaching staff I think they will definitely not fall apart at the end.

Women and sports (No this isn't sexest)

I'm going to go off topic a little bit and discuss something that I have been noticing for awhile now. Generally woman and sports don't mix in the eyes of the everyday male, but believe it or not there are woman who actually pay attention to them and don't just like watching it because of their boy friends, or because they like the colors of the uniforms.
Let me ask you this guys, how many of you been at a sporting event and thought to yourself "She's only here because her Boyfriend dragged her along", or "Oh c'mon I bet she can't even name me 1 player that's not on the roster or the starting line".
Is it possible for woman to actually like a sport and be passionate about it? of course it is. In fact I feel some woman can be a little more obsessed then some men haha.
Think about the next time you turn around and say to the woman behind you "Your only here because they are winning a lot, so I bet you can't even name me players that aren't on the team anymore" she might just surprise you by naming the entire 1985 Patriots starting line up, stats, and everything under the sun. I'm not saying there aren't any "pink hats" out there but give woman the benefit of the doubt won't you?
My point is to never judge a book by its cover,  Thank you Rowena for bringing this to my attention and the idea for the post. I see her tweets and facebook postings and man she knows her stuff, so guys I would be careful.

Gronked for 6

ESPN's Adam Schefter Just reported that the New England Patriots and Rob Gronkowski have reached a six year 54 Million dollar contract extension. This will make Rob the highest paid TE in all of the NFL. WOW! I didn't see that coming... well not that many years that is. Mr Gronkowski, you sir are on top of the world. Now go out there and win us a SuperBowl!

Patriots are Gronking!!!

98.5 reported this morning that the New England Patriots are in the negotiations with patriot nation's favorite gronkster. Apparently the deal would wipe clean the last year of his rookie contract and extend him, how long? no idea but this is great news for Pats fans and probably Tom Brady as well. Something tells me that by them doing this they are making room to pay Wes Welker. Now this is just a hunch that I have but you release Ochcocinco, and restructuring Gronks deal, just makes sense to me.

Ocho-gone-o

Well as much as Bill has respect for Chad, it just proves that you need to produce in order to have a spot on this team. Your name and what you have done in the past don't mean squat in Bill's eyes. Many reports came out yesterday that Ochocinco wasn't release and then "BAM!!" not even 3 minutes later he was released. Apparently the Patriots tried to get something back by trying to trade him, I suppose 15 receptions for 276 yards and 1 touchdown doesn't get you much. Well Chad it wasn't any fun while it lasted and I wish you luck on whatever team picks you up (if any). I leave you with these final words... "Child, Please!

Football abroad

On October 28, 2012 my beloved New England Patriots will be playing a regular season game against the St Louis Rams in Wembley Stadium in London. I personally feel expansion of the greatest American game is necessary, but in America! Let them have "the most popular sport in the world" soccer (football) how about we look to expand football in our great nation by adding more teams and more exciting players to them. Help out cities with jobs at the stadiums etc.
This is just my opinion but how many Europeans actual watch American football?
Think about the money the NFL could make by adding some more teams and a crazier playoff scenario. Imagine this Montana mountaineers, or the Alabama Crawfish. Granted these are made up but still fun to think of, don't you think so?

Shot me a comment and let me hear your made up football team.

Welker's importance

Wes Welker has done nothing but been Mr Consistent since being in a Patriots uniform. So why aren't the Patriots paying the WR? I wish I had an answer for you but I don't all I know is that since 2007 Wes has played in 77 games, had 554 receptions, racked up 6,105 yards, scored 31 TD's. I'd say that was the stats of a superstar don't you? I know that playing procrastinator is the"Patriot way" but lets not overlook the connection that Brady and Welker have.
I know a lot of people feel the same way as I do which is great, and Welker has also stated that he has "9.5 Million reasons" why he won't sit out this year. I feel that is a very classy move on his part, especially when you have people like Darrell Revis that is planning on sitting out "again" to get another pay out. I'm not oppose to players getting paid I just feel they could do it like Wes.
Tom Brady will certainly have massive amount of targets to throw to this year with a big receiving core. Lets take a gander at his targets shall we? Brandon Lloyd, Donte Stallworth, Jabar Gaffney, Wes Welker, Deion Branch, and of course Chad Johnson (not to sure if he will even make the roster). And that's not all he still has Rob "The Gronk" Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.
In my opinion I feel that Wes Welker should be paid Brandon Lloyd type money, what are your thoughts?

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

That was quick

WEEI is reporting that the Patriots have released WR Anthony Gonzalez.
Hmm he didn't even get a chance to prove himself, "hopefully" this means a deal for Welker might be around the corner.

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Hey, Hey, HEY!!

It's Fat Albert!! Albert Haynesworth has been released by the New England Patriots. Bye Bye
OH! and take that crappy WR with you.

Friday, November 4, 2011

C'mon MAN!!

I have been a fan of the Patriots ever since I was a kid and I'm so friggin glad there isn't a cheesy, crappy rap out there. Apparently the New York Jets made this into an official theme for them....LAME! have a listen for yourself click on the link below
http://youtu.be/1F9Wv46QvV0

Now I might not be a fan of the New York Jets (a little bias, yes) but I'm also not a fan of crappy music. This is just to much.

It's been awhile, I shouldn't have left you without a dope blog to read to

So the last time I posted a couple of things have happened, the Red Sox and Theo Epstein have parted ways. The famous  fried chicken / beer scandal, and other type of things. But I have to say that I have enough of the fried chicken and beer talk.I defiantly think that its time for Red Sox nation and the players to get over themselves and start looking at what our next move should be.

The NBA / David Stern is ready to announce the cancellation of more regular season games. Which should take them to mid November. I personally don't care because I lost all interest in the NBA as soon as the NHL season started.

The Bruins are not playing to good and their record of 3-5 have some "Pink Hats" jumping ship already. What did they honestly expect? that they would go 8-0? Perfection takes time and that's exactly what the fans need to realize. Thomas and the rest of the core Bruins who won the Stanley cup are intact. Yes, they did have a short summer and alot of celebrations to deal with. The Bruins will put it together I just know it.

The Patriots are set to Sunday matinee at 4:15pm, and it's sure to be a good game. The Steelers are coming off a 32-20 win against the Cardinals, and the Patriots are coming off a bye week. I look for the Patriots to have a slow start and then take care of business and pull it out at the end. But next week is no walk in the park either when they face up against the New York football Giants.

Just in case you cared, or didn't know the Texas Rangers are one win away from taken home the trophy against the St Louis Cardinals. I for one didn't watch much baseball this year so I couldn't give you any insight on the series, nor would you actual care about my opinion lol.

In Wes we trust

Is it just me or is this guy the real deal? 40 Receptions, 615 yards and 5 TD's in 4 games. So why haven't the patriots locked this guy up for another 3-4 years? I mean c'mon he only has the most receptions in the NFL since 2007 and he always is ready to play. This upcoming Sunday the Patriots are going to be tested by Rex Ryan's Jets and if the defense can't get their crap together then something will have to change. Don't get me wrong as I feel Tom Brady, Wes Welker and company can score as many points as they need to, but the defense has to play better.
As for the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Bruins they
Start their defense of the Stanley cup this week (10/6/2011) And I can't friggin wait!! I have been excited for this since the end of the parade. The do have some new editions and lost some people but the core is still intact. GO B's

Still no word on who the next manager of the Red Sox might be, but I did hear a buzz that maybe Tony Larussa could possible be a point of interest. This is just a rumor swirling by but he has said that he would be willing to move on from the Cardinals.
