"Pete Rose Play Hungry" A Book Review by John Marsinelli

Growing up a baseball fan my father and I would at times talk about Pete Rose and how he believes he was one of the best and that he got screwed. While reading this book I found two similarities that
stuck out to me. Pete Rose admired his dad and I feel even though me and my father have our
differences, at the end of the day he is my best friend. The second similarity was that he had an uncle
Bud as well. I really got inspired by reading about how Mr. Rose worked his butt off to accomplish all
the success he did.
He mentions that he wasn’t even the best baseball player at his high school. This just shows hard work and dedication to a craft from not the best player on your high school team to the all time hit king. I really respect how Mr. Rose played going 100% every single time. I also respect how Mr. Rose admits to the gambling scandal. I still believe he should be elected into the HOF and that players have
definitely done way worse and are still in the HOF. Some things I learned from this book that I had no
idea about was that Pete Rose was in the military, he was Morganna first athlete kiss, that he spent some
time playing for the Montreal Expos and that he was a player manager for the Reds. I also didn’t realize how Mr. Rose played so many positions. He always said that he did whatever his team thought was best to win so if that meant to switch from one position to another then it would be done. He would practice his butt off for every position he played. He was truly a lead by example kind of guy. If he is going to go 100% day after day then you would hope that would rub off on his teammates. I am happy that Mr. Rose did get to win Rookie of the Year with his dad still alive. I wish his father was alive to see him break the hit record.  I thought it was really cool that Mr. Rose played for his hometown team. It was interesting learning about how Mr. Rose followed his father around all the time in his youth. He was either the water boy or the bat boy depending on the season. It was really nice to see how Mr. Rose spoke about his father. His father taught him to always play hard and to do what he can to help his team win. This book is a prime example of how hard work and dedication can take you as far as you want it to take you.  I recommend this book to not only athletes but anyone who is driven for success.

Sports book reviews by John Marsinelli

Hello all, I would like to introduce to you all a very good friend of mine.

John Marsinelli is a coworker, friend and a sports-a-holic such as myself. He is into reading and reviewing sports books. I've known John for a little while now and he continually tells me about the books he has read. So when I decided to reopen this, I figured I would ask him to join so that he can put his reviews out to the masses.

A little known fact about John is that he is a great kid, he constantly is doing things for charity, and is also training to run in the Christie Clinic marathon (which was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus).
John has aspirations to be a police officer and LOVES White Claws!

Lets all give John a warm welcome and I hope you all enjoy his reviews.

Thank you

What now?

As I mentioned in my last post, there is no NBA, MLB, NFL, or NHL. So what is there to do for a sports lover such as myself?
Well, I am constantly seeing that both the NBA and NHL are trying to find common areas where all teams can play, which might make the games play into the late dog days of summer forcing them to make the start of next season later into the year. I for one would welcome the NHL to be playing into the late into the summer, because the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs have to be one of the most exciting playoffs out there. It seems that its the only sport in which a 7th seed team can get hot at the right time and take it all the way to a championship. For me that is the most exciting thing that the NHL provides.

The NFL is stating that they aren't going to be changing anything that they do (schedule wise). I have to say that for the first time in a  long time, I actually paid attention the NFL draft this year. It has to be one of the most entertaining drafts I have seen in a long time. Ones I've watched in the past I have fallen asleep on the couch within an hour, that's mainly due to the drawn out process of the picks, introducing and pop and circumstance that comes along with it.
This years draft moved quicker, gave us a glimpse into these soon to be pro bowl athletes world and even the commissioner seemed human and to enjoy it. The commentary was good and it had very little hiccups (well at least not to my knowledge.)

MLB is, well MLB. They haven't done much, the cheating scandal hasn't been talked about for a while, The Red Sox traded Mookie and Price, but what else is there?... Go on, I'll wait.
Exactly, nothing! I have lost so much interest in MLB that I don't have much to talk about. The players salaries are so high, their replay system isn't working too well, and their product just seems long winded and over saturated.

The NBA is trying to get back to business as usual, but are having a hard time getting teams on board and finding specific areas where they can play. They constantly toss back and forth the idea of playing in empty stadiums, but most players aren't on board with that, and honestly... who can blame them? They deserve to play in front of their fans, just as much as the other leagues. I'm not a NBA expert (nor am I an expert at any sports), but they will figure it out and continue on.

As much as I want sports to come back so I can spend my Saturday and Sunday nights with a ice cold beer and being stressed out watching my beloved Bruins, I'd much rather have a vaccine made and for this to stop taking our loved ones away.
Sports is a a healer, sports unites people. Sports allows strangers to have something in common, makes dinner with extended families more enjoyable. But now is the time to follow the restrictions, stay inside when your supposed too. Thank the Dr's, EMT's, Police and Fire associates.Thank a nursing home associate and all health care workers. Thank a dispatcher, a grocery worker, a retail worker. Thank the Dunkin Donuts worker that's there at 5am to make sure you have you medium regular coffee.

Thank you to all.

Quara-What???

It's the year 2020, the world is in the midst of an pandemic. The world is fixing itself, while we are all home stuck inside. The grocery stores are refusing to sell alcohol to the outside states. The Government has acknowledged that aliens might actually exists. But yet we continue, we strive and push forward.

All sports (professional, and collegiate levels) are postponed. Yet we continue, we strive and push forward. In a time where first responders, Dr's, nurses are our heroes, we continue, we strive and push forward. In New England, we have 4 major sport teams that are our lively hood, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and of course the New England Patriots. Red Sox have recently won a championship, Celtics are relevant and the Bruins are having one of the best seasons they've had in a while, even better then their Stanley Cup run that ended in a game 7 loss last year. But the biggest sports news to come out of  New England is the departure of one of the greatest QB's of all time. That's right, if you've been living under a rock for the past couple of months, the Golden Boy Tom Brady has left the New England Patriots via Free Agency to a VERY unlikely team in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tom Brady, a 6 time Super Bowl champ, All time win, passing and MVP leader in Patriots history has left for the Tamp Bay Buccaneers. I have tried to comprehend what has happened, and all I can say is thank you. Thank you for all you've done Tom Brady, thank you for all the ups and downs. Thank you for all the championships. Thank you for hard work and dedication you've shown in your time here. Thank you for showing New England what it takes to be a winner. You've put it all out there and walked away a champion. You've earned the right to get paid as a elite QB, to have another team entrust in your abilities. Do I wish you ended your career in New England? absolutely, but not everything has a fairy tail ending. I am not salty, I am not resentful, and I don't hate you or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I am not upset at Bill Belicheck, or Robert Kraft for allowing you to leave.

If anything, it has rejuvenated my faith in the New England Patriots and put the unknown in me. Unknown on how the Patriots will play, the unknown of who the starting QB will be, if BB will prove that he can build a winning team with a bunch of players that went undrafted (again).
I will always be a Tom Brady fan, mainly for what hes done for the organization, I will also be following the Bucs, so I can see how well, or unwell they're doing with our QB.

For the sake of things, I'm not going to touch upon the Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement to join Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. It's exactly what I would have expected in the year 2020 thus far.

Thank you for reading, I hope to have more posts coming soon.

Mr. Patriot Retires

Gino Cappelleti, one of the faces of the New England Patriots’ organization, has retired as of today.  Capelletti has been a member of the organization for 45 of its 52 years in existence!  From 1960-1970, he was a kicker and a wide receiver for the AFL with the Boston Patriots.  In 1964 he won the AFL’s MVP award.  He is a member of the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, their All-1960s Team and the American League Hall of Fame.  He is the All-Time Points leader in AFL history.  In other words, the dude has had an illustrious career with the Patriots organization.  After his football career was over, it did not take long for him to join the organization as a color commentator for the Patriots Radio Network.  He was a broadcaster for 33 years.

He’s been with the Pats for 45 out of the organizations 52 years.  He’s been one of the faces of the organization for so long! That is just incredible to me, to devote yourself to a single organization and area for such a substantial amount of time.  I also love him because in 1984 he was inducted into the National Italian Sports Hall of Fame.  L’Italia!  Anyways, while it’s sad to see him leave the Pats it’s just that time for him.  Cappelletti told the Boston Herald: It’s been 33 long years with the Patriots — not that they weren’t exciting and good years — but the length of time certainly has been part of that. Of course, I’ve got to believe that this was the time to do it, and I had a great experience with all of it. I look forward to many fond memories because of what we saw with the Patriots throughout the years with how they’ve improved in almost every category. They’re one of the elite teams in the National Football League at this point, and I’m just proud and honored to have been part of it.

We wish you all the best, Mr. Patriot.  Thank you for your unwavering dedication to Boston sports!

Ross is Boss Nation

I know I haven't talked much about the Red Sox this year, but last night I watched a team come together like no other. Let's all take quick moment to watch this mammoth walk off blast by Cody Ross.
(click below to see the HR in real time)
Cody Ross's Blast

Not to be out done Clay Bucholz had a very solid game going 8 innings, giving up 6 hits, one earned and striking out 6.
Watch out people the Red Sox might have woken up.

Thoughts and Prayers out to the Victims in Aurora

By now I'm sure you've all heard of the Colorado massacre that occurred last night at a midnight Dark Knight Rises premiere. Unfortunately, there are horrible people who do horrible things every day. I can't imagine how the friends and families of those affected by this tragedy are feeling right now.

A member of our sports journalism family was also killed in last night's massacre. Jessica Ghawi, an aspiring sports broadcaster, was shot twice last night and killed. She worked for the website 'Busted Coverage'. She was also there for the Toronto mall shooting earlier this summer and had this to say shortly after:

“I say all the time that every moment we have to live our life is a blessing. So often I have found myself taking it for granted. Every hug from a family member. Every laugh we share with friends. Even the times of solitude are all blessings. Every second of every day is a gift. After Saturday evening, I know I truly understand how blessed I am for each second I am given.”

The shooting in Aurora was a national tragedy, but if we could all take a second and read Jessica's words we can take something away from this experience.  Every moment in our life is a blessing.  Make the most out of your life, and aspire to do big things.  I know this isn't really a sports post but sometimes you just need to say what has to be said.  In honor of Jessica, and the other who lost their lives last night in Aurora, Colorado, live your life to the fullest extent.  Take Jessica's words to heart.
